I have been searching the internet for a couple of weeks on how to fix my Jetpack issue, it is an add on for Word Press blogs to connect to the Word Press cloud servers to add additional features to your blog. But since moving from my shared hosting to my VPS I have had problems with getting my blog to actually function as it did on shared hosting. I pay for managed hosting and the folks @ TMZVPS have been great and have fixed most of the problems that have came about, but they could not resolve the issue with JetPack.

When I transferred CincyGeek.com over to my VPS, I was not able to get Jet Pack to work, and I kind of gave up on trying to fix it because I did not have time. I continued to search on the internet to see if anyone could provide any insight on how to fix this. I never found what I was looking for, so I decided to take a further look into ModSecurity2 which my Apache is configured with. I went to the logs and found that JetPack and other things were being prohibited from running.

Access denied with code 406 (phase 2). Match of “rx (^application/x-www-form-urlencoded|^multipart/form-data;).*$” against “REQUEST_HEADERS:Content-Type” required. [file "/usr/local/apache/conf/modsec2.user.conf"] [line "17"] [id "90001"]

So I analyzed the error message and opened up the ModSecurity2 config and searched for

application/x-www-form-urlencoded

And found it was right at the top of my config and just commented out the rules like this

# Only accept request encodings we know how to handle
# we exclude GET requests from this because some (automated)
# clients supply “text/html” as Content-Type
#SecRule REQUEST_METHOD “!^(GET|HEAD|OPTIONS)$” chain
#SecRule HTTP_Content-Type “!(^application/x-www-form-urlencoded$|^multipart/form-data;).*” “deny,log,status:406″
#Added a rule_id so that this rule can be disabled.
#SecRule REQUEST_METHOD “!^(get|head|options|post|put|propfind)$” chain,deny,log,status:406
#SecRule HTTP_Content-Type “!(^application/x-www-form-urlencoded|^multipart/form-data;).*$”

and also commented out the line about XML-RPC because Jetpack uses this file.

#XML-RPC Exploits – RayF
#SecRule REQUEST_URI “.*xmlrpc.php.*” chain
#SecRule REQUEST_BODY “.*(wget|echo|pwd|cwd|curl|tar|cd|tmp).*”

I hope this helps you out, and if you have any questions please ask in the comments section!

You can purchase music legally from many of online sources, but which one is truly the best one for you? In this article I will be explaining the differences in each of the online music retailers and my thoughts on each one. I will be talking about iTunes, Amazon and Google Music. I see these 3 retailers as the main source of online music retail, and are completely legal because you have to purchase them and you own them.

Online music sharing got off to a rocky start with the invent of Napster in early 1999 by Shawn Fanning, it was a great way of sharing the music you already owned and ripped into your library on your computer. Napster was doing very well until it was sued by Metallica and the RIAA which caused Napster to be shut down and Shawn Fanning to be sued personally for infringing on copyrights on multiple accounts. Since Napster Shawn Fanning has had his hand in a few other start up’s which you may have heard of. He helped Mark Zuckerburg get into even more colleges when The Facebook was launching and becoming famous with college students, and now Shawn is a part of Spotify and is trying to change the way we listen to music online, albeit legally this time. After Napster rose to fame Apple with the help of Steve Jobs introduced the iPod and the iTunes store, where you would be able to get all of your music for the only mp3 player you needed at the time. Fast forward to today, and there are many of types of music consumption devices, from mp3 players, cell phones, computers, tablets and many more we have so many choices how we can consume the music we like. On 12/1/2011 Napster was sold to Rhapsody by Best Buy who tried to make it an online music re-seller, but failed at it.

I will be describing 3 of the major online sources to purchase your music, yes I know there are countless ways to get your music free (this may be covered in another article) but today I am talking about legal methods to consume music. To display the differences in each store, I am using the same music album from the same artist to demonstrate the differences in each store. Rihanna “Talk That Talk”

iTunes has this album for $21.99 15 Songs and a bonus booklet

Amazon has this album for $10.99 14 Songs with a bonus booklet

Google Music has this album for $12.49 14 Songs with NO bonus booklet

What the price actually comes down to is the contract the music vendor has with the artist/label. Amazon has the lowest price on this album at this time, but they tend to run promotions more often than any other of the online stores. So I tend to shop Amazon for all of my music purchases due to this fact. I usually only purchase my music when it is on sale. Amazon is notorious for selling their albums for $5.00 while iTunes never does this.

This holiday season, you have more options to help you get the best price on what ever you have more options available. Most of what I will be discussing in this article will be available via iTunes or the Android/Amazon Marketplace.

I use 3 or 4 apps to scour the web to find the best deals, and I would like to share them with you.

ShopSavvy which is one of the original barcode scanning apps that came out. It was first started on the Android G1. It allows you to scan a barcode and then search the internet for the same product using just the upc of the product. You can get it for Android | iOS | Windows Phone 7 via the app stores or from http://shopsavvy.mobi/

Amazon Price check is available for iPhone and Android, it allows you to do the same thing as Shopsavvy but it is just for Amazon. I personally use this app more than any other app as I find it easier to make my purchases off of Amazon rather than wasting my time in Holiday lines. You can download this app from iTunes or Amazon for Android

My next app recommendation is a craigslist app. There are many free ones that help you search craigslist. You can always find a good deal on Craigslist.

I currently working on other projects and can not spend as much time as I would like on Cincygeek.com and would like to invite bloggers to join me and blog about technology. I am looking for people who are in love with technology and love to learn about the latest gear and tech procedures. This is a non paid position, but an opportunity for you to share your knowledge with the readers of this blog and review the products that you currently own or items that you are looking into purchasing. I wish I could pay for writers but this is not an option at this time.

I am looking for anyone who wants to write on any of following topics:

rants – things that bug or upset you about technology and how it could be changed

business –tech ideas that help or grow business

reviews -you can review anything tech related

entrepreneurship – anything that helps start-ups to veterans entrepreneurs

Writing the blogs is easy – all I ask is that you are not self promoting, doing it to get people to link to your website, or trying to sell your products/services. I would also ask that you keep the swearing to a minimum as some people do read this blog while they are at their jobs or potentially around younger kids.

All blogs should be 300-350 words and have 1 copyright free photo at least 300 pixels wide and any height.

If you would like to get started as a blogger on Cincygeek.com just email me @ joshua.combs[@]cincygeek[dot.]com

I know I am late on the announcement of Steve Jobs leaving Apple because he is no longer able to do so. This advances Tim Cook as the new CEO of Apple. Steve Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2005 and was cured with surgery. But has been battling illnesses since then, and had a liver transplant in 2010 and has not been in the best of health since. I am sad that Steve Jobs has left Apple due to health reasons, but I feel that Steve has built a corporate culture and when something is created the people of Apple will think what will Steve think, and will uphold the the best of quality and design. I have no doubt that Tim Cook will lead the company in the right direction because he came to Apple the same time that Steve Jobs came back to Apple back in 1998.

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

This means the HP Touch Pad which debuted 49 days ago is now dead, and anything with PalmOS is now no longer being created. So the new HP Veer on AT&T will be removed soon from AT&T. What is weird about the HP Touchpad is that it beat the Microsoft Kin by 1 day. HP said that they are not fully done with the WebOS platform and are not walking away from it. This can open up some room for improvement if Google or Microsoft become partners in the WebOS platform as those patents are worth while and would benefit each of them.

Google has released in press statements that the acquisition was strictly for patents, but why would a software provider need with patents? I am under the impression they are going to produce a strictly Google device and compete directly with Apple and their iPhone and possibly iPad devices.

If, for example, Google provides preferential access to the Android code to its own hardware division, this would place other vendors at a disadvantage and may lead them to question their commitment to the platform, potentially pushing some towards other platforms, given Google’s recent moves to exert greater control of the implementation of the Android platform, such as restricting access to the Android source code to select hardware partners, such a move is not beyond the realm of the imagination.

If this happens, the beneficiary would be Microsoft and the Windows Phone platform, because many larger Android manufacturers such as Samsung, LG, HTC and ZTE are also Windows Phone licensees.

As the move was announced, Android partners Samsung, Sony Ericsson, HTC and LG issued almost identical statements to each other. They all insisted in essence that they “welcome” the news of Google’s “commitment to defending Android”.

There have been a of speculation that Apple has been placing 4g network repeaters in their Apple stores, and this can only fuel the speculation that the newest iPhone that is set to release in October or November 8will actually have the LTE capabilities that everyone is looking for. I hope that Apple has figured out how to properly utilize battery power unlike most of the other 4g phones. I love the Android platform, but living on the power plug is something that I hate doing. Always wondering if you will get through a time period where you are not able to charge your phone and know that it WILL go dead and there is nothing you can do really sucks. Everything that Apple releases is done properly, and there should be no chance that Steve Job’s will allow anything to go out half assed like some of the other companies.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has said that the “first generation of LTE chipsets force a lot of design compromises.” Cook was speaking during Apple’s earnings conference call on April 20th. A higher level of integration, resulting in more compact chip designs, is necessary. Could the LTE chipset evolved far enough in 4 months for Apple to put their trust in them and utilize them on their new magical handsets? Or will they just wait until the chipset is matured enough to get what they really want out of them? And who gets the true 4G iPhone AT&T or Verizon?
