Is The Verizon iPhone True?

The Verizon iPhone is in the news again, could the rumors be true? The Wall Street Journal is stating that they have the information directly from Apple and that the rumors are actually true. On October 6th WSJ stated that

Apple Inc. plans to begin mass producing a new iPhone by the end of 2010 that would allow Verizon Wireless to sell the smartphone early next year, said people briefed by Apple.

While there is plenty of innuendo in that statement, the publication never actually stated that Verizon will be selling the iPhone. Today, the WSJ has un-muddied the proverbial waters and rewritten a portion of their previous article. The new article reads:

AT&T Inc. is about to lose its lock on the iPhone.

Apple Inc. is making a version of its iPhone that Verizon Wireless will sell early next year, according to people familiar with the matter, ending an exclusive deal with AT&T and sharpening the competition with Google Inc.-based phones.

What could the implications be if Apple does move the iPhone to Verizon, would they leave the iPhone on AT&T so they can get more handsets out there to compete with the Android/Google phones on all of the other carriers. I feel that this would only benefit everyone who would like to have an Apple iPhone but just can not use AT&T service in their area (I am one of those people, an iPhone would go well with my iPad and MacBook Pro :) ).

I am hopeful that the iPhone will be going to Verizon, I would jump ship from my HTC Evo to the iPhone so I could correspond all of my tech products to one brand :)

Check out my previous post back in August on why I thought the Verizon iPhone was not going to happen. Previous Post
